Reflections: "Maquiladoras", or factories, are places where MANY mexican people work. They work long hours for low pay. Many Mexicans work in the maquiladoras because they provide a numerous amount of jobs and usually require little to no skill. Basically, if you need the money-you do the work. Whatever the work may be and however your superiors treat you.

Quote: "The businessmen and women who run the maquiladoras (internationally owned and operated Mexican factories) that were to transform the border have found more, and cheaper (it didn't seem possible) labor in China. By 2002, four hundred maquiladoras had shut down in Mexico with more slated for doom."
Reflections: The word "maquiladoras" is defined as internationally owned and operated Mexican factories that were built to improve border life. This quote shows that the owners of the maquiladoras are more willing to find cheaper labor than to improve the condition of border life. As a result, Mexican citizens were left with less job opportunities which in turn increased their desire to cross the border to find better paying jobs and even opportunities to work.
